TREADMILL TEST (TMT), also known as an Exercise Stress Test, is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure used to evaluate how well the heart performs during physical activity. During the test, the patient walks or runs on a treadmill while the speed and incline gradually increase. Throughout the procedure, the patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, and electrocardiogram (ECG) are continuously monitored to assess the heart’s response to exercise.
TMT is commonly recommended for diagnosing coronary artery disease, evaluating chest pain, detecting exercise-induced heart rhythm abnormalities, and assessing overall cardiovascular fitness. It also helps doctors determine the effectiveness of ongoing cardiac treatments and identify potential heart problems that may not be visible when the body is at rest. The test is safe, painless, and performed under the supervision of trained healthcare professionals.
